Goals and Objectives
The Workshop intends to support the first steps of a Working Group of African Parliamentary Libraries to be created under the Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network and to facilitate the establishment of a collaborative mechanism to share information and documentation among African parliamentary libraries. By fostering collaboration, the Working Group would help African parliamentary libraries to be better positioned and equipped to support the information and research needs of parliaments.
More specific objectives of the Workshop will be:
- Exposing participants to existing networks/working groups of parliamentary libraries, their benefits and modalities of work;
- Facilitating the discussion on the structure and working modalities of a Working Group of African Parliamentary Libraries and its future key challenges;
- Exploring the opportunities provided by ICT to facilitate collaboration and networking among parliamentary libraries;
- Facilitating the building of a Directory of African Parliamentary Libraries.
The Workshop will also include a number of training sessions which will:
- Expose participants to the online tools and services currently available on the website of the Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network (www.apkn.org) and the Bungeni Portal System;
- Provide participants with information and tools for the preparation of dossiers through available free online resources;
- Expose participants to the online resources and digital reference services provided by the UN Library
- Provide participants with approaches and strategies on how to market their library and its services.
