In a bid to further strengthen and regulate the ICT sector, government has approved four new policies to ensure fair competition and promote equitable access to ICT throughout the country. The approved policies pending enactment into laws are the National Information Technology Policy, e-government Policy Framework, Postal Policy, and Analogue to Digital Migration Policy.

Angola is making a good progress toward the implementation and development of information technologies, said Thursday in Luanda the first vice Speaker of Parliament, João Lourenço. The MP was speaking at opening ceremony of the seminar on "Information Technologies", promoted by the VI Commission of National Assembly, in charge of Education, Science and Technology, Culture, Youth, Sports, Religious Affairs and Media.

The European parliament is currently consulting on a wide-ranging draft European Commission regulation on European standardisation. Voting in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee, which is spearheading the legislation, is set to take place in March.The initiative is intended to create a comprehensive, effective, broadly applicable standardisation system. The Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII) has criticised the proposal as paving the way for standards which are poorly compatible with open source software.
